Originating in ancient Java, lurik motifs are always a combination of stripes or checks. Like all things Javanese, each design is rich in symbolism and superstition. For example, a broken, scattered striped pattern called udan liris (gentle rain; drizzle; sprinkle) symbolizes fertility and prosperity. A man in authority might wear this cloth hoping to receive God’s blessings, thus bringing prosperity to his followers. Another striped motif called tuluh watu (glittering or shining stones) is believed to protect the wearer from evil or bad luck.The center for woven cloth which is recognized nationally and internationally can be found in Pedan. In the event, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) appears with a traditional Indonesian dress. Tenun Ikat (Traditional Weaving) a one of the options President of Indonesia was when he opened the ceremonial some time ago. Woven fabric similar to the choice of SBY and his entourage were also traded by LURIK PEDAN.
LURIK PEDAN launched silk weaving in twis a cotton blend with CSM. Cloves floral motif that symbolizes prosperity. This motif of inspiration comes from the natural resources of East Indonesian plantation.
These crafts are made from silk yarn feed twis with a IKAT techniques that tie certain parts bound to produce different colors. Dominant weft in woven red on cotton yarn lungsi blue CSM. The result, appears bright blue very pretty red.
